How to deal with rejection?

Rejection is common in life and what is important is how you deal with it. Rejection can be quite painful and hurtful.

It can happen in any area of your life. It is therefore the number one reason why people are afraid to try. The only way to deal with rejection is head on – accept it, learn from it and keeping pushing forward. Don’t let one person’s rejection or no tip you off your track. This is often easier said than done. The only thing that will keep you going is motivation. Things that you can do differently are:

Be teachable - don’t keep doing the same thing over and over and expect to get different results. By being teachable you open yourself up to learning new skills. So be open to feedback.

Keep your eye on your goal – just because you have been rejected doesn’t mean there isn’t someone else looking for what you have to offer. Rejection should motivate you to pay even more attention. Paying attention to rejection only takes your attention away from the goal. After all, it is 20% what happens to us and 80% how we respond to it. Focus on the bigger picture.

Don’t take it personally. Just because you have been rejected doesn’t mean that something is wrong with you. Remember to be successful, you must believe in yourself even when others don’t!

Never give up because successful people don’t reach success by trying just once. The more you try, the more chances you give yourself of succeeding. Giving up only means that you do not believe in your capabilities and are not ready to learn from your mistakes. Put in more effort and remember that no one is perfect.

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realise how close they were to success when they gave up” – Thomas Edison.

Rejection is part of life and will happen whether we like it or not. Being teachable, keeping our goal in mind and not taking things personally and pushing forward even when times are tough will make sure that you stay motivated.
